Biography

Zahra Abbasi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary since September 2021. She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta, where her research focused on the design of passive and active RF/microwave sensors for non-contact real-time detection and monitoring. Dr. Abbasi completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Waterloo. Her educational background includes a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology. She has been active in designing sensor systems and has established long-term collaborations for developing novel sensing structures. Dr. Abbasi is also involved with professional organizations, chairing IEEE Microwave Theory & Techniques Society and participating in various committees. She has received several awards for her contributions to academia, including excellence in graduate student supervision and recognition for her impact on equity and diversity in engineering.
