Biography

Zaki Wahhaj is a Professor of Development Economics at King's College London, focusing on Development Economics with a regional emphasis on South Asia and West Africa. His research specializes in marriage markets and household decision-making in developing countries, financial inclusion for marginalized groups, and the effect of social norms and informal institutions on economic behaviors. Wahhaj's work on marriage markets, women’s economic participation, and risk-coping strategies addresses the impact of formal law and customary practices. He is also actively engaged in supervising PhD students on topics related to intra-household decision-making, social cultural norms, and financial access.
