Dr. Zakir Durumeric

Biography

Zakir Durumeric is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he focuses on Internet security, trust, and safety. He is interested in protecting individuals from various forms of attacks on the Internet, including cybercrime, harassment, censorship, and disinformation. As an empiricist, he builds systems to measure complex networked ecosystems at scale and uses insights to understand real-world behavior, uncover vulnerabilities, and architect resilient defenses while guiding public policy. He founded Censys, a platform that provides researchers with free global data about Internet devices and services. Durumeric leads the Stanford Empirical Security Research Group and teaches several security-related courses. His research efforts emphasize creating open-source tools and datasets for better understanding and protecting the Internet.
