Biography

Zameel Cader studied Medicine at the University of Birmingham from 1991 to 1997 and continued with general medical training in Oxford. He worked on genetic linkage association of neurological disorders at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, obtaining a DPhil in 2003 and completing his training in Clinical Neurology at Oxford. In 2007, he joined the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and was awarded the MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship to establish his own research group. He leads the IMI StemBANCC, a large public-private partnership funded by the EU to establish induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) resources for academia and industry in Europe. He is also the lead for IMI IM2PACT, a research program investigating disease mechanisms involving the brain neurovascular unit and transport mechanisms to deliver therapeutics to the brain. His research group aims to develop resources and tools to improve drug discovery by leveraging human data and human iPSC brain models, focusing on pain, migraine, Alzheimer's disease, autism, and epilepsy. He is an active Consultant Neurologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, specializing in headache disorders, and he is the Director of the Oxford Headache Centre, where he developed the Oxford Community Headache Service.
