Biography

Zayd Ayers Dohrn is the Daniel Hale Williams Professor and Director of the MFA Writing Screen + Stage program at Northwestern University. He specializes in playwriting, screenwriting, television writing, and podcasting. Dohrn is known for his work as the creator, writer, and host of the documentary podcast 'Mother Country Radicals', which won the prestigious Columbia-DuPont Journalism Award for storytelling. His acclaimed plays include 'Profane' at Playwrights Horizons, 'People' at The Vineyard/Naked Angels, and 'Want' at Steppenwolf. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the arts, including the Gold Medal from the New York Festival Radio Awards, the Horton Foote New American Play Prize, and the Kennedy Center’s Jean Kennedy Smith Award. Dohrn is currently developing a television series for Peacock and writing films for Netflix FilmNation. He is a graduate of Brown University, with further education including an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and fellowships at Juilliard and Columbia University.
