Zbig Wasilewski is a Professor at the University of Waterloo, holding a research chair in Nanotechnology. He is known for his pioneering work in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), quantum-dot quantum-well photonic devices, and high-mobility 2D electron gas-based quantum structures. As the director of the QNC-MBE Facility, he focuses on MBE nanofabrication of III-V semiconductor structures and related applications, including quantum optics, nano-photonics, nano-electronics, and quantum computing. His leadership has led to the achievement of the highest operating temperatures worldwide for GaAs/AlGaAs-based THz Quantum Cascade Lasers and other complex man-made quantum structures. Furthermore, his laboratory pioneered the In-flush method, a leading technique for creating fine-tuned MBE-grown InAs/GaAs quantum dot systems for photonic quantum computing applications. He has co-authored 500 refereed journal articles and conference proceedings, amassing 16,000 citations with an h-index of 64, along with significant contributions to GaN-based optoelectronics in Poland, earning him the title of Professor Physics by the President of Poland in 2012. In 2022, he was elevated to Fellow of the IEEE.
