Biography

Dr. Zhao-qing Luo is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University. His research primarily focuses on the mechanisms by which microbial pathogens, such as Legionella pneumophila, survive and multiply within hostile host cells, as well as how host cells respond to infection. His lab investigates the essential pathogenic factors of Legionella and the role of various proteins in the process of bacterial infection. Dr. Luo is particularly interested in studying immune responses to intracellular pathogens, focusing on signaling pathways involved in detecting bacterial infections. His long-term goal is to elucidate the signal transduction pathways that are critical to bacterial virulence and immune detection. He has a strong background in microbiology and has contributed significantly to our understanding of bacterial immune evasion strategies and the cell signaling mechanisms in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
