Biography

Zhaolin Xu is a professor in the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University and a senior pulmonary pathologist and cytopathologist consultant at QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In addition to routine clinical practice, Dr. Xu's research focuses on gene mutations in human lung cancer tissue and liquid biopsies, correlating these with pathologic characteristics, tumor clinical staging, and patient treatment responses and prognoses. He leads a research lab equipped with advanced technologies, including fully automated genomic sequencing systems. Dr. Xu is a senior scientist at the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute and established the QEII Lung Tumour Bank in 2005, which holds certification from the Canadian Tumor Repository Network (CTRNet) and is the largest comprehensive lung tumor bank in Canada. His research also involves the early detection of lung cancer metastasis and studies concerning lung injury and interstitial lung disease. Dr. Xu serves on various committees, including as Chair of the Research Committee for Lung Cancer Canada, and is a member of the National Lung Cancer Pathology Staging Multidisciplinary Expert Panel for the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
