Zhe Jay Chen received his B.S. degree in theoretical physics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 1982. He was selected for the Nobel Laureate T.D. Lee's China-US Physics Scholarship program to pursue graduate studies in physics in the United States, receiving his Ph.D. degree in theoretical condensed matter physics from the City University of New York in 1989. He continued with postdoctoral research at Brown University from 1989 to 1992 before joining the Department of Radiation Oncology at the State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Chen has a strong focus on clinical medical physics in radiation therapy and has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles. He has been the principal investigator on several federally funded research grants exploring the impact of prostate edema on the treatment of early-stage prostate cancer using permanent interstitial brachytherapy. His work includes fundamental research on radiation dosimetry and the development of novel treatment planning techniques in radiotherapy, making significant contributions to the fields of medical physics and cancer treatment.
