Dr. Zhenchao Qian

Biography

Zhenchao Qian is a Professor of Sociology and a Research Associate at the Population Studies and Training Center at Brown University. His research focuses on social demography, stratification, and inequality. He specifically studies topics such as assortative mating patterns, changes in marital status, and how marital transitions influence individuals' well-being. His interests extend to racial identification in children born to interracial couples and immigrant integration in the United States, as well as the social changes within families in China. He has held multiple principal investigator roles in significant research projects funded by various institutes, including studies on union history and midlife health, changing family structures, and immigrant wealth accumulation. Qian has been recognized for his contributions to the field, being elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and as a member of the Sociological Research Association.
