Biography

Zheng Chen received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Yunfeng Lu in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His doctoral work involved the design and synthesis of nanostructured materials for electrochemical energy storage devices. From 2013 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral associate working with Prof. Zhenan Bao in Chemical Engineering and Prof. Yi Cui in Materials Science Engineering at Stanford University, focusing on functional polymer materials that enhance the energy density, prolong cycling lifetime, and improve the safety of batteries. Chen received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tianjin University in China. He has received several awards, including the Student Science Talented Award from Tianjin University in 2007, the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed PhD Students Studying Abroad in 2011, the MRS Graduate Student Silver Award in 2011, and the Department Outstanding Graduate Award from UCLA in 2012. His research interests include the development of nanostructured materials and functional polymers for applications in electrochemical energy devices like batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells, as well as in creating flexible, printable devices for sustainable water resource solutions. He teaches courses across core Chemical Engineering disciplines.
