Biography

Zheng Liu received his Doctorate in Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan in 2000 and earned a second Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada in 2007. He started his career as a Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, followed by various research positions at the National Research Council of Canada, including his role as a Research Officer. Later, he became a full professor at the Toyota Technological Institute in Nagoya, Japan from 2012 to 2015. Since August 2015, he has been a professor at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC, Canada. His research interests include non-destructive inspection and evaluation, condition assessment, predictive maintenance, data and information fusion, computer/machine vision, machine learning, digital twin technologies, and smart sensor networks. He is a Fellow of SPIE and a senior member of IEEE, and he has held various editorial and leadership positions in professional societies and publications. Liu has been recognized for his contributions to the field of instrumentation and measurement, and he actively supervises graduate students in innovative research projects.
