Biography

Zhiru Zhang is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cornell University, and a member of the Computer Systems Laboratory. His research focuses on developing new algorithms, methodologies, and design automation tools for heterogeneous computing systems. Zhang's recent work includes high-level synthesis (HLS), hardware specialization, machine learning, and programming models for software-defined FPGAs. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Intel Outstanding Researcher Award and the AWS AI Amazon Research Award. He has co-founded AutoESL and RapidStream, companies that developed innovative tools for FPGA design and acceleration. Zhang is actively involved in teaching and has received multiple teaching excellence awards from the College of Engineering. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Peking University and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA. Zhang has been recognized for his contributions to the field, being inducted into the ACM/SIGDA TCFPGA Hall of Fame and receiving numerous paper awards at top conferences. His work continues to influence the areas of digital design automation and hardware acceleration for AI and machine learning applications.
