Biography

Zhitao Kang is a Principal Research Engineer at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, where he specializes in the development of optoelectronic materials, thin film growth processes, and the fabrication of photonic and optoelectronic devices. His research has led to the development of the new X-ray phosphor, ZnTe:O, and he has contributed to the field of luminescent nanoparticles for lighting, display, and biological applications. Dr. Kang holds a significant publication record with over 40 publications in journals and conference proceedings. He has also secured several patents related to his research work. Dr. Kang completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Materials Science Engineering from Central South University in China, before pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, which he earned in 2006. He began his career as a faculty member and lecturer at Central South University, where he directed the rapid solidification spray forming laboratory and was responsible for developing patented spray-deposition technology. Dr. Kang's extensive knowledge includes crystal plasticity, hierarchical materials design, materials informatics, and nanoindentation stress-strain curves.
