Biography

Zhiwei Peng earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. Prior to joining the University of Alberta, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. His research group focuses on the development of theoretical machinery and high-performance computational libraries to study the micromechanics of soft active matter. Key topics of interest within his research include transport phenomena, microrheology, fluctuations, and collective motion in soft active materials. These materials include suspensions of motile bacteria, molecular motors, and synthetic self-propelled colloids. The potential applications of this research span catalysis, chemical sensing, self-assembling intelligent materials, and targeted drug delivery. Zhiwei Peng is committed to advancing the understanding of active matter and its diverse applicability in various fields.
