Biography

Zhixin’s research focuses on generating, processing, and detecting signals with high precision. He has achieved optimally designed optical, electronic, and optoelectronic systems, leveraging advances in discrete integrated photonic technologies. His work explores high-precision signal technologies in communication systems and scientific instruments, including micro and millimetre wave transceivers, 6G satellite communications, and precision sensing in medical metrology systems. Zhixin has pioneered frequency comb assisted data conversion, low-latency data communication switching, and low-noise optoelectronic RF synthesizers, leading world-first demonstrations of scalable picosecond-level clock synchronization and ultra-high bandwidth wireless communications. He has co-authored over 170 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, with high-profile papers in Nature Electronics and Nature Communications, and more than 10 invited papers in top IEEE/OSA journals. As a Principal Investigator, he has secured 15 grants from industry research councils, amounting to over £6 million in funding. Zhixin has also been a Co-Investigator on the EPSRC Programme grant TRANSNET, the EPSRC strategic equipment grant, and EU framework grants, collectively raising over £10 million. He holds 6 patents assigned to equipment vendors for data centre access network transceivers. He was awarded the EPSRC fellowship for the period 2025-2030 and is a senior member of the Optical Society of IEEE.
