Chao Tan is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, where he also serves as the Director of the Research Lab for Green Energy and Pollution Control. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Tsinghua University in Beijing in the 1990s and completed his PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004.
