Biography

Zhongwei Zhao graduated with a PhD from the University of Cambridge and holds an MA from the University of Exeter and a BA from Peking University. He is a Professor at the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute, College of Arts and Social Sciences at the Australian National University, where he has worked since 2008. Prior to his appointment, he held positions as a Senior Research Associate at the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure and a Bye-Fellow at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. He has also been a Senior Fellow, Fellow, and Research Fellow at the Australian National University, as well as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of New South Wales and the East-West Center in Hawaii. His research interests encompass long-term population changes, demographic transition in Asia, Chinese demography, environmental impacts on population health and mortality, computer microsimulation in demographic research, historical demography, familial changes, and demographic estimation models.
