Dr. Ziad Saghir

Biography

Ziad Saghir is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, an MASc from Université Laval, and a BSc. With extensive expertise in Mechanical Engineering, Thermofluids, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Fluid Flow, Saghir's research focuses on computational fluid mechanics, particularly the behavior of fluids in porous media. His involvement as a former program scientist with the Canadian Space Agency has led him to conduct significant research on the impact of gravity on hydrocarbon movement in underground reservoirs. Saghir's work includes conducting experiments in reduced gravity environments aboard space shuttles and the International Space Station, contributing valuable insights into oil extraction methods that have positive environmental implications. He is also involved in teaching and mentoring students, instilling in them a passion for their discipline through enthusiastic engagement in the classroom. Saghir has played a pivotal role in various professional organizations, including serving as the founder and chair of the International Conference on Thermal Engineering.
