Biography

Zinian Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in Commercial Law at the University of Glasgow. Previously, he taught at the University of Leeds from 2016 to 2022. He holds a PhD in law from the University of Durham, which he completed in 2014 under the supervision of the late Professor Roman Tomasic. Following his PhD, he served as a postdoctoral research fellow at Singapore Management University's School of Law, supported by his mentor, Professor Tang Hang Wu. Before his academic career, he practiced law in Hangzhou, China for ten years, particularly working with state-owned enterprises. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering (BEng) from Jingdezhen College in 1995. His primary research interests revolve around corporate insolvency law, utilizing empirical studies to understand how law operates in practice. He has focused his research on the UK Investment Bank Special Administration Regime since 2020 and is currently watching the landscape of bankruptcy in deposit-taking banks and other financial institutions. Throughout his career, he has supervised several PhD students, contributing to both academic institutions and the financial services industry.
