Biography

Zita Nunes is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on comparative African American and African Diaspora literature, literary theory, and the literatures of the Americas. Currently, she is a Mellon Fellow at the Price Lab for Digital Humanities and is the principal investigator on a project that involves the digital archiving of the Black press in multiple languages. This project is entitled 'Digital Bilingual (Portuguese/English) Edition of Correio de Africa [Africa Mail] Newspaper (1921-24) Scholarly Apparatus,' which was supported by a major three-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Professor Nunes is also in the process of completing a book manuscript titled 'Racism Translation: Multilingualism, Comparative Literature, Harlem Renaissance'. She earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley, and has published articles and book chapters, including a notable piece on Dorothy Porter and the Africana Research Collection.
