Biography

Ziv Scully joined the faculty at Cornell University in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering in 2023. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in 2022, and obtained his B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2016. Prior to his appointment at Cornell, he was a research fellow at the Simons Institute at UC Berkeley and held postdoctoral positions at Harvard SEAS and MIT CSAIL. His research focuses on the theory of decision making under uncertainty, stochastic control, resource allocation, and performance evaluation, with particular emphasis on scheduling, load balancing, and queueing systems. His work is motivated by the needs of cloud computing and data center service systems. Ziv has published several papers on these topics, including presentations at major conferences such as ITCS and SIGMETRICS. He has received multiple honors, including the SIGMETRICS Doctoral Dissertation Award and recognition in various student paper competitions.
