Biography

Ziyun Deng is an Adjunct Lecturer at Harvard Graduate School of Education with a focus on language skills in adolescents and young adults. Her work addresses how these groups utilize language in response to various controversies and dilemmas, particularly in cross-cultural and cross-linguistic contexts. Dr. Deng has developed novel instruments to examine the lexical, grammatical, and discourse complexity of adolescents’ argumentative writing. Her recent research has been published in top-tier journals such as Assessing Writing and the Journal of Literacy Research. She was awarded the Yidan Foundation AERA and has a background as an elementary school teacher. Ziyun graduated with a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Peking University, China, and currently serves as a faculty advisor for the Human Development and Education program at HGSE.
