Biography

Zoe Hurley is an academic specializing in postdigital cultures and feminist-semiotics, particularly in the context of the Arabian Gulf. She currently serves as a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE) and was previously an assistant professor at Zayed University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a PhD from Lancaster University, her thesis explored the role of Gulf Arab women's empowerment in postdigital contexts. Zoe has over a decade of experience working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and South East Asia, and has also held the position of visiting professor at the Socotra Archipelago University in Yemen, collaborating with colleagues from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Her research has been published in leading academic journals such as Feminist Media Studies, Visual Communication, New Media + Society, and Information Communication & Society. She is the author of the monograph "Influencing City Likes: Dubai Postdigital Condition," which advances decolonial semiotic theorizing. Zoe is also the President of the Gulf Association of Semiotic Studies.
