Biography

Zoë Thomas is an Associate Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Southampton. Her broad research interests center on earth system tipping points, atmospheric circulation shifts, and Quaternary environmental climate change. As a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, she actively investigates the mechanisms and impacts of climate tipping points, focusing on the timing, teleconnections, and consequences of past atmospheric circulation changes. With extensive fieldwork experience, including expeditions in Antarctica, the Falkland Islands, New Zealand's sub-Antarctic regions, and Australia's outback, she applies a variety of laboratory-based techniques and time series analyses to understand the Earth's system dynamics. Zoë is a member of the Landscape Dynamics Ecology research group and is involved in numerous active research projects to advance understanding of climate change impacts in various ecosystems.
