Biography

Dr. Zohir Chowdhury joined San Diego State University (SDSU) in Fall 2007 as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental Health at the Graduate School of Public Health. He completed his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2004. Prior to his appointment at SDSU, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Chowdhury's research interests focus on air pollution with an emphasis on particulate matter (PM) in both urban and rural regions as well as indoor and outdoor environments. His work addresses significant global concerns about particulate matter air pollution and its roles in causing respiratory and cardiac problems, reducing visibility, and its documented effects on global warming. He seeks to characterize PM air pollution, develop instruments, and methodologies for measuring and understanding its health effects. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Aerosol Research, the Air & Waste Management Association, and the International Society of Exposure Analysis.
