Dr. Zohir Chowdhury joined San Diego State University (SDSU) in Fall 2007 as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental Health at the Graduate School of Public Health. He completed his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2004. His work addresses significant global concerns about particulate matter air pollution and its roles in causing respiratory and cardiac problems, reducing visibility, and its documented effects on global warming. He seeks to characterize PM air pollution, develop instruments, and methodologies for measuring and understanding its health effects. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Aerosol Research, the Air & Waste Management Association, and the International Society of Exposure Analysis.
