Zsuzsanna Varga holds undergraduate degrees in Hungarian, English, and Portuguese from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. She completed her PhD in the Department of English Literature at the University of Edinburgh and earned an MSc in Library and Information Studies from the University of Strathclyde. Varga has previously worked at Essex University in the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, as well as at De Montfort University. She was appointed as a Lecturer in Hungarian Studies at the University of Glasgow in 2008. Her research interests center on the concept of ‘travel,’ focusing on travel writing, reception studies, and the publishing history within the cultural and literary historical context of Hungarian studies. She actively welcomes proposals related to Hungarian culture and literature, particularly from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as European women’s writing and translation studies. Varga is involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with responsibilities including Honours coordinator and Chief Adviser of Studies for CEES. Additionally, she collaborates with colleagues to edit Slavonica: Journal of East European Literature.
