Zulfikar Najmudin is a Professor of Physics and currently serves as the Deputy Director of the John-Adams Institute, a joint research institute focusing on accelerator science involving the University of Oxford and Royal Holloway College, London. He has been a Lecturer in the Plasma Physics group at Blackett Laboratory since 2001, and was promoted to Professor of Physics in 2011. His research interests span the interaction of high-intensity lasers with matter, laser-driven fusion, and particle accelerators. Prof. Najmudin is recognized for his significant contributions to the field of laser-plasma particle acceleration, including the acceleration of electrons to energies exceeding 100 MeV. He has also demonstrated narrow energy spread electron beams produced by laser wakefield accelerators and shock acceleration of proton beams, along with pioneering measurements of x-ray radiation from laser wakefield accelerators.
