Biography

Zyra Evangelista is a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow. She completed her master's and doctorate degrees in psychology at the same institution. Her PhD research focused on improving LGBT+ inclusion in Higher Education, supported by a Newton Fund grant, which involved a mixed-method, cross-country comparative assessment of the campus climate for LGBT+ university students in the UK and the Philippines. Zy has received several awards for her research work, including the Prize for Research Work on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues to Combat Discrimination from the University of Padua in May 2022 and was shortlisted for the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences Impact Award in April 2022. Her research interests include LGBT+ campus climates, anti-LGBT+ prejudice, discrimination, and inclusion in higher education and sports. Zy has collaborated on research investigating the lived experiences of gender and sexual minorities in higher education in Vietnam. She has also presented at numerous international conferences and has served in various academic roles, including as a Book Review Editor for Psychology Sexualities Review and has been involved with LGBT health and wellbeing initiatives. Currently, Zy is dedicated to enhancing the representation and inclusion of LGBT+ individuals in academic settings and beyond.
