Durand is a professor in artificial intelligence. She is specifically interested in interactive learning, where a model is learned from data whose collection process is influenced by the model itself. This includes, for example: reinforcement learning and bandits; active learning; and incremental/continuous learning with feedback loops. Her contributions overlap the development of new methods, their theoretical analysis, as well as their application to real-world problems in the scientific domain, with an emphasis on health science.
