Stephanie L. Archer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta, where she directs the Little Magpies Lab for Infant Language Learning. Her research primarily focuses on early speech perception, the development of the lexicon, and how speech input affects the developing perceptual system. Archer is particularly interested in the types of information that are useful for word learning in infants and toddlers. Her key research areas include infant speech perception, infant-directed speech, infant and toddler language development, sound symbolism, phonology, and phonetics. She initiated the Magpies Lab in 2018, which has been actively recruiting participants, especially as the pandemic restrictions ease. The lab aims to gather valuable insights into children's language development through various studies and collaborations with researchers from diverse academic backgrounds in linguistics, psychology, education, and environmental sciences.
