Biography

John Meyer is a professor and co-founder of the graduate program in industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology at the University of Western Ontario. His research focuses on work motivation, commitment, leadership, and employee well-being. Professor Meyer has published extensively in leading journals within the fields of I/O psychology, management, and research methods, with over 165,000 citations according to Google Scholar. Notable publications include 'Concise Introduction to Workplace Commitments' (Edward Elgar, 2025) and 'Commitment in the Workplace: Theory, Research, and Application' (Sage Publications, 1997). He has also served as an editor for the 'Handbook of Employee Commitment' (Edward Elgar, 2016) and co-editor for 'Commitment in Organizations: Accumulated Wisdom and New Directions' (Routledge, 2009). Professor Meyer conducts seminars and workshops across Europe, Asia, and Australia. He is a Fellow of several prestigious associations including the Canadian Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. In recognition of his significant contributions to I-O psychology, he received the distinguished contributions award from the Canadian Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology in 2007 and the Helmuth Prize for Achievement in Research from Western University in 2012. In 2025, he will be honored with an honorary doctorate from the University of Montreal.
