Joss Ives is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of British Columbia, where he has been a significant contributor to physics education research. His teaching philosophy incorporates innovative assessment strategies and educational techniques designed to enhance student learning in physics. He has a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan, earned in 2000 and 2003, respectively, followed by a Doctorate from the University of British Columbia in 2008. Professor Ives has served at the University of British Columbia since 2013, following his tenure at the University of the Fraser Valley from 2009 to 2013. His research focuses on the development of laboratory communication skills and curriculum innovations that support undergraduate learning in physics. In recognition of his commitment to teaching excellence, he received the Faculty of Science Teaching Award from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2013. Joss Ives continues to contribute to advancing education within physics through his research and pedagogical initiatives.
