Biography

Julia Nolan is a committed performer and educator specializing in saxophone, maintaining an active performing schedule to promote new works for the instrument. She has commissioned various pieces from notable Canadian composers such as Stephen Chatman, Keith Hamel, and Robert Pritchard. Julia has contributed to numerous saxophone events, serving as a head judge for the International Saxophone Symposium Competition in Georgia and as a guest artist in the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Music and a Doctorate from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Music from Indiana University. Julia has premiered significant works, including Jeffrey Ryan’s concerto 'Brazen' with leading orchestras. Additionally, she has taught master classes internationally and provides private lessons, focusing on fostering artistry in pedagogy through engagement with renowned artist-teachers.
