Biography

Alberta M. Gloria is a Professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she focuses on fostering the academic persistence and mental well-being of underrepresented groups, particularly Latinx students. Her research interests encompass areas such as cultural responsiveness in higher education, the empowerment of first-generation college students, and the challenges faced by Latino men in academia. Gloria's influential work often highlights the intersection of culture and identity in educational settings, and she has published numerous articles addressing themes of mentorship, belonging, and mental health in diverse populations. Her educational background includes a BA in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, an MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University. Gloria has contributed significantly to the literature on educational experiences and resilience in minority populations, advocating for culturally-informed mentoring practices and highlighting the importance of community in academic success.
