Leora Dresselhaus-Marais is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Photon Science. Her research focuses on modernizing 19th-century manufacturing processes to improve sustainability and efficiency. Leora's team explores sustainable steelmaking and metal 3D printing, emphasizing fundamental mechanisms that influence material properties. She was previously a Lawrence Fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where she developed tools to investigate time-resolved defect dynamics in bulk materials. Leora received her PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the supervision of Professor Keith Nelson, and a BA and MSc in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. She has garnered recognition as a Young Investigator from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Leora's academic service includes acting as a doctoral dissertation advisor and reader for postdoctoral faculty sponsors in various research projects.
