Biography

Linda Flower's work has led to complementary paths of inquiry, emphasizing an understanding of writing as a social-cognitive process and the art of rhetorical problem solving. Her research has facilitated her role as co-director of the National Center for the Study of Writing and Literacy at Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon, enhancing teaching methodologies and student inquiry through programs such as Problem Solving Strategies in Writing for the College Community. Additionally, she has contributed to the establishment of the Pittsburgh Community Literacy Center, focusing on intercultural inquiry and supporting the rhetorical agency of marginalized speakers. Her academic endeavors include seminars on Environmental Rhetoric, exploring the intersection of problem-solving strategies in rhetoric and public deliberation concerning environmental issues. Flower's advocacy for rhetorical analysis aims to empower environmental organizations in effectively communicating risks and spearheading action.
