Biography

Greg Gondwe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism at California State University, San Bernardino and a Faculty Associate at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. His scholarly work focuses on the intersection of journalism, technology, and society, particularly the adoption of emerging technologies in African journalism and the power dynamics involving local media and foreign actors, with a special emphasis on China's influence in the West. Gondwe employs both qualitative and computational methods, including text mining and content analysis, to explore topics such as algorithmic bias, misinformation, and media equity within Sub-Saharan Africa. He has published in prominent journals including Digital Journalism, Mass Communication and Society, and AI & Society. Currently, he is investigating the role of artificial intelligence in shaping knowledge construction and public discourse in African contexts, reflecting on the dynamics of digital activism among youth in Zambia and the impacts of encrypted messaging apps on the political landscape in South Africa.
