Aaron Drews is an Associate Teaching Professor in Chemical Nano Engineering at the Jacobs School of Engineering, UC San Diego. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 2014. Drews was awarded several fellowships during his graduate studies including the University Graduate Fellowship, Air Products Graduate Fellowship, and the Chemical Engineering Teaching Fellowship. His dissertation work introduced ratcheted contact charge electrophoresis, a novel method for the rapid and efficient transport of conductive particles through microfluidic channels. He collaborated with the Whitesides group at Harvard University as part of a DARPA-led initiative to extinguish flames using electric fields, employing a method referred to as fire fighting "wands." In addition to his role as a lecturer at UC San Diego, Drews has been instrumental in the long-term development and improvement of core undergraduate chemical engineering laboratory courses and has implemented the flipped classroom model to enhance student engagement and self-directed learning.
