Biography

Abel Chikanda is an Associate Professor in the School of Earth, Environment & Society at McMaster University. He earned his PhD in Geography from Western University in 2006. Prior to his current appointment, he was an Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Kansas from 2015 to 2022. Chikanda has also served as a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at Queen’s University from 2010 to 2012. His academic focus encompasses a range of areas including food security, international development communication, migration, population geography, post-colonialism, and socio-cultural geography. He has held numerous academic positions and contributed to significant research projects throughout his career. Additionally, he has experience as a Project Manager for the Southern African Research Centre at Queen’s University and has taught as an Adjunct Lecturer at various universities including the University of Waterloo and the University of Western Ontario.
