Biography

Ablimit Baki Elterish is a Senior Language Tutor in Chinese Studies at the University of Manchester, where he has been instrumental in developing and teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate Mandarin Chinese courses. He obtained his MSc in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh via a Chevening Scholarship and has since pursued a PhD in Chinese Studies at Durham University. His academic journey began at Durham's Department of East Asian Studies, from which he joined the University of Manchester in 2006. Elterish has contributed significantly to the Chinese Studies Programme and is actively involved in research, focusing on the intersection of minority languages and cultures within the context of contemporary Chinese society. His research interests include Chinese language, culture, and society, especially concerning minority groups like the Uyghurs in Xinjiang. He is also interested in Chinese language teaching and translation, as well as intercultural communication. Elterish has participated in international conferences and actively engages in public discourse on Uyghur issues, aiming to raise awareness within the academic community and beyond. Additionally, he has served as a visiting scholar at Beijing University and held an associate professorship at Kashgar University.
