Biography

Chef Adam Roy's hospitality career began in small restaurants in his suburban Chicago hometown, progressing through an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from Joliet Junior College. This ignited an international journey, starting as a personal chef on a private yacht in the Mediterranean Sea. A pivotal year as an exchange student in Germany, working at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hamburg, fueled his passion for global hospitality. He gained vast experience with Holland America cruise lines in Switzerland, launching specialty restaurants around the world. Driven by a thirst for diverse cuisines and cultures, Chef Adam explored Southeast Asia, studying in Singapore and contributing to the revamp of Novotel Bangkok. He spent a decade with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts in Oman, Malaysia, China, and shifted to education in 2017, teaching at Woosong University in South Korea. Following his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Florida International University, he taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stout before transitioning to his endowed position at Michigan State University in fall 2023. Chef Adam is a Certified Executive Chef (CEC), Certified Culinary Educator (CCE), and Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE). He is passionate about continuing education and has lived and worked in various countries including Germany, Switzerland, and Singapore, while traveling to 80 countries. He enjoys learning languages and sharing stories from his journeys, speaking German, Thai, and Mandarin, while working on his Spanish. He is also an avid home brewer interested in fermentation.
