Biography

Adam Wierman is the Carl F Braun Professor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2001, followed by his M.S. in 2004 and Ph.D. in 2007. Prior to his current role, he served as an Assistant Professor at Caltech from 2007 to 2012, and became a Professor in 2012. He was appointed as Executive Officer from 2015 to 2020 and has held positions as Associate Director and Director of Information Science and Technology. His research focuses on sustainable computing, particularly in the development of algorithms for networked systems that contribute to sustainable and resilient infrastructures. His work includes areas such as online algorithms, stochastic networks, and network economics, striving to create systems that can adapt and optimize resource use effectively. Wierman actively collaborates across disciplines to design new markets and infrastructure improvements that employ theoretical guarantees in practical deployments.
