Dr. Adriana Brook

Biography

Adriana Brook is a trained classicist with degrees from McMaster (BASc), Western (MA), and Toronto (PhD). Her research focuses on the ritual elements in the plays of Sophocles, with a secondary emphasis on the reception of Greek tragedy in Rome. She has also completed a Master’s in Education from Brock University, focusing on post-secondary pedagogy. Her educational interests include incorporating Universal Design for Learning in the ancient language classroom and effective professional development support for writing instruction. Before her position as Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Adriana taught at several institutions, including Wellesley College, Lawrence University, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Trent University. She has developed courses on a wide variety of subjects within the curriculum of Greek and Latin language and Classical Studies, covering literature, culture, history, and first-year composition. Recent publications include works on topics like the reception of Greek tragedy and pedagogical approaches in classical education.
