Dr. Aj Steijn

Biography

Professor A.J. Steijn is a prominent figure in the field of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he holds the chair in Human Resource Management in the public sector. He has an extensive educational background with a degree in sociology from Erasmus University, graduating with honors in 1984, and a Ph.D. obtained in 1992, also from Erasmus University, where he graduated with honors. His research emphasizes public service motivation, its relationship with job satisfaction, organizational change, and commitment in the public sector, along with the interplay between human resource management and job performance. Steijn employs predominantly quantitative research design but recognizes the critical value of accompanying qualitative methods in his investigations. He has made significant contributions to understanding motivation theories and the dynamics of job performance in public sector organizations. His work has garnered recognition, exemplified by awards such as the European Group Public Administration Paper Award for his collaboration on leadership in public management.
