Dr. Alan Plattus

Biography

Alan Plattus has been teaching at Yale since 1986 and previously served on the faculty of Princeton University for seven years. He is the founding director of the Yale Urban Design Workshop, which was established in 1992, and focuses on research and design studies for communities in the Connecticut metropolitan region. His current projects through the Workshop include planning the Heritage Park along the Thames River in New London and Groton, as well as resiliency planning for the coast of Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is funded by HUD's Rebuild by Design program. Plattus also directs the School's China Studio, which collaborates with Tsinghua University in Beijing, and he led an international team from Yale to develop plans for the Peace Park at the Jordan River on the Israeli-Jordanian border. He has served on the boards of several significant organizations, including the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and the National Architectural Accrediting Board. Plattus holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.Arch. from Princeton University.
