Dr. Alan Porter

Biography

Alan Porter is a Professor Emeritus at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he has been a faculty member since 1975. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Porter's expertise lies in technology forecasting assessment, an area where he has authored 230 professional publications including books such as 'Tech Mining' and 'Forecasting Management Technology'. His recent research projects funded by the National Science Foundation focus on 'Indicators of Technological Emergence'. Additionally, he co-directs the Technology Policy Assessment Center at Georgia Tech and has taught various short courses on emerging technologies and competitive technological intelligence at multiple international locations. He also co-founded the International Association for Impact Assessment and has held multiple leadership roles within the organization. His work continues to influence the fields of technology forecasting and policy assessment.
