Biography

Alberto Flórez-Malagón holds a PhD in History from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. At the University of Ottawa, he previously served as a Senior Program Officer in the Program of Peace, Conflict and Development at the International Development Research Center (IDRC) in Ottawa. He has been an associate professor at Javeriana University and Los Andes University in Colombia, where he also directed the National Social Sciences and Humanities Program. Flórez-Malagón has lectured at several Canadian universities, including Laval, Concordia, and McGill. His areas of expertise cover local dynamics of conflict, rural studies, environmental history, historiography, food cultures, cultural studies, and transdisciplinarity in Latin America. His current research interests revolve around global, cultural, and power issues, particularly concerning historical construction and ideologies of identity in Latin America.
