Dr. Alejandro Lleras

Biography

Alejandro Lleras is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois. He earned his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 2002. His research interests primarily focus on understanding attention, perception, and awareness, especially in the visual domain. Lleras has conducted extensive studies addressing how attention works and fails, examining issues related to temporal attention and distractions that can affect one's ability to concentrate over prolonged periods. He has also contributed to increasing visibility for underrepresented minorities in cognitive sciences through his efforts at the Spark Society, where he serves as a member of the governing board. In addition to his academic pursuits, Lleras holds the position of Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and has received a Mid-Career award from the Psychonomic Society, highlighting his significant contributions to the field. He is involved with various professional organizations, including the U.S. National Committee for Psychological Science. Lleras maintains an active online presence through platforms such as ResearchGate and Google Scholar, where he shares his research outputs.
