Dr. Alessandra Santos

Biography

Alessandra Santos is an Associate Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She holds an MA and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she engaged in extensive interdisciplinary research in Latin American literary and cultural studies. Her work examines various aspects of modern and contemporary literary production, embracing themes such as utopias, technology, media, gender, race, and social justice. She has led significant research projects, including a SSHRC Insight Grant, focusing on African Diaspora literature, culture, and technology in Brazil. Santos has published several notable works, including books on Brazilian literature and co-edited volumes on utopian thought within the context of the Americas. Her scholarly contributions also encompass numerous articles and chapters addressing critical topics in literature and performance studies, reflecting her dedication to enhancing the understanding of cultural discourse in Latin America.
